The Fat Turk - Brentwood
Tucked away on Warley Road in Brentwood, The Fat Turk - Brentwood makes an instant impression with its stylish aesthetic and modern take on Turkish cuisine. It’s the kind of place where you walk in for dinner and end up staying long past dessert, thanks to its warm atmosphere, buzzing energy, and a menu that’s as bold as it is comforting.
One of the standout features here is the diversity in the menu. Whether you're into succulent grilled meats or craving something sweet and rich, there’s always something tempting around the corner. The Lamb Shish Kebab is one of the most talked-about dishes, and for good reason - grilled to juicy perfection, seasoned with just the right amount of Mediterranean spice, and served piping hot with fresh sides. If you’re dining with someone who can never decide what to order, the Mixed Grill or Mix Kebab Platter is a generous spread of everything - lamb, chicken, possibly even some beef or kofta - beautifully presented and ideal for sharing.
Vegetarians aren’t left behind either. The Selection of Hot and Cold Meze is fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly filling. From hummus and tabbouleh to grilled vegetables and dips with house-made bread, it’s a celebration of bold Turkish flavors in every bite. Add a Greek-style salad on the side for a touch of crunch and acidity that pairs beautifully with the richness of the grilled items.
The drinks menu deserves its own spotlight. If you’re a cocktail lover, Espresso Martinis and Turkish-inspired mixes dominate the bar’s offerings. The champagne list is solid, and the wine menu is well-curated with plenty of options to pair with either grilled meats or lighter fare. Don’t skip the Turkish coffee, especially after dessert - it’s intense, aromatic, and served the traditional way.
Speaking of sweets, Baklava here is a game changer. Rich, sticky, flaky layers of pastry and nuts soaked in syrup - it’s everything you want it to be. If you’re more of a chocolate person, the Chocolate Cake comes out warm, indulgent, and beautifully plated. Finish that off with a Strawberry Smoothie or a shot of Turkish delight, and you’re sorted for the evening.
What really sets The Fat Turk - Brentwood apart is its ambience and accessibility. The vibe is trendy yet cozy, with stylish interiors and warm lighting that make it just as suitable for a romantic dinner as it is for a casual solo lunch. Outdoor seating is available when the British weather allows, and the entire place is wheelchair-accessible, from parking to restrooms.
Service is efficient and friendly, striking a balance between being attentive without hovering. You’ll see everything from groups of friends enjoying late-night cocktails to professionals popping in for a quick but hearty lunch. It’s also a great spot for people who enjoy late-night dining with quality - not just availability.
Another strong point is their takeaway and delivery options, including no-contact delivery, which adds a layer of convenience for those who prefer enjoying gourmet Turkish food at home. But honestly, the dine-in experience is where The Fat Turk shines. There’s something about the sizzling platters coming out of the kitchen, the clink of cocktail glasses, and the low hum of chatter that adds to the charm of the place.
In a town full of dining choices, The Fat Turk - Brentwood manages to hold its own by offering a polished, modern take on traditional Turkish food without compromising authenticity. It’s got the right mix of bold flavors, generous portions, and a vibe that’s both upscale and inviting. Whether you’re after a full dinner experience or just want to drop in for a drink and dessert, this is the kind of place that keeps calling you back.
Reviews
Service and ambience were great. Lamb chops tender, juicy and delicious. Lamb sis tasty but a bit tough. Kalamar was yummy. Really liked the bread that came with our food. Bit on the pricey side but worth it.
We visited the Fat Turk on a lazy late Friday afternoon. The place was busy, we were greeted with a smile and shown to our table. The staff are extremely polite, helpful, and very tentative. The service is quick but gives you enough time to have a good conversation (if you know what I mean). The food was very tasty. For our starters we had the Humus (8.5/10), sujuk (10/10), and the bread (10/10).. for our mains we had the lamb kofte durum (8.5/10) and the lamb beti (10/10). All of these hit the spot! For desserts we got a Baklava to share (9/10). So overall it was a great experience and one I would definitely revisit.
I had a birthday lunch with my family
The food it's amazing, some of the staff was not so friendly, which kind of lowered the mood. A bit overpriced
Food was amazingly delicious. Portion is pretty good. Obviously it's pricey, but really worth to try it out. Once you get your food, it's hard to get hold of the waitress. But overall it was pretty good experience. On the other hand, it was super noisy and loud so I could hardly hear my wife sitting 20cm next to me and we were seated next to grill so it was too hot for me. If you desire a better place to sit, then I recommend to pre-book it.
